In my field of literature, the modern concept of "national literature" envisioned the works of national authors writing in the "national language", but texts by authors working outside their original nations and languages are increasing around the globe. In my courses, we read these works of "transnational literature" to better understand Japanese literature, nationality, and the nation. In order to realize a multicultural society in which all members can live freely, we must move beyond simple categorizations and retrace these concepts to their roots.Come face-to-face with society at GISTrue global citizens must be able to see issues from different angles. The interdisciplinary liberal arts education at GIS, which includes a wide range of fields such as humanities, social sciences, and business, provides students with the necessary context to form a comprehensive understanding of the world around us. Through discussion, students develop the ability to look past the surface to understand society as it truly exists. Students at GIS come into contact with diverse worldviews and obtain the skills necessary to build a multicultural society.GISGregory KhezrnejatAssociate ProfessorHow do we envision a multiculturalsociety?
