18Department of Mathematics The Department of Mathematics offers excellent opportunities for exploring the world of mathematics. The principal aim of the Department is to educate students with programs in mathematics, statistical science and computer science at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Research at the professional level is also encouraged. There is currently a great demand in society for highly qualified mathematicians, statisticians and computer scientists. To meet this demand, the Department is offering well-coordinated courses for learning fitted capabilities. Our educational programs include: Introduction to Set Theory, Elementary and Advanced Calculus, Linear Algebra, General Topology, Algebra, Geometry, Statistical Mathematics, Programing Language, as well as more advanced mathematics. Furthermore, we have our own library and computer room available for students. Our students, in preparation for a wide variety of careers, find that they can increase their capabilities for analyzing, formulating and solving problems arising not only from mathematics but also from any human activities. Mathematical study provides an appreciation of one of the most wonderful and useful human activities.数学科の紹介動画をご覧いただけます数学的思考法を養い現代科学技術を支える基礎能力と応用力を身につける 数学は「数理の世界」を探究する学問です。人間が知的好奇心に導かれて数理の世界を探究する学問であり、人類の文明発祥以来、連綿と受け継がれ発展してきました。現代数学は数や図形そのものを扱うところから出発し、それらの集合、集合間の写像、さらに写像の集合、と段階を追って対象が複雑化してきました。対象を空間として見るか、演算を通してとらえるか、ある種の関数の集まりと考えるか、視点の違いによって幾何学、代数学、解析学という分類が生じます。 すべての科学を表す「ことば」である数学を学ぶことにより、理論的な思考力を養うだけでなく、様々な研究開発分野で活躍できる基礎能力と応用力が身につきます。 本学科では、数学の様々な分野に関してその基礎から学び「数学研究とはどのようなものか」を理解することを目標としています。数学科専用の図書室、大学院生との交流など、学びを深めるための充実した環境 本学科では、数学の各専門分野の基本的素養を自ら学び取っていけるよう、優秀な指導陣がきめ細かな講義・演習を行っています。また数学科専用の図書室があり、参考書を使って調べたり、演習問題を解くなど、講義を聴くだけでは足りない部分を補って理解を深められます。そのほかにも数学科専用の計算機室において充実したコンピュータ設備が利用でき、情報社会に必須のIT技術を修得できます。また、大学院生室へ行けば大学院生と交流でき、勉学のアドバイスなどを通して学びを深めることができます。 女子学生も多く、女性にも学びやすい環境が整っています。 卒業生は、数学的思考法を身につけた人材として様々な分野で活躍しています。数学科では数学と情報の教員免許状を取得することができ、教職に就く卒業生も多数輩出しています。数理の世界を探究し、新たな知見を見出す力を養成数学科
